I was just reading the story about Sen. John Ensign(R-Nevada) possibly breaking Ethics rules by finagling a job for an aide whose wife he’d been screwing. Possibly?  Further ethics violations may have been incurred as Ensign used his influence to help donors who were now clients of said former aide…whatever. Politicians’ involvement in graft, influence, wife diddling, burying interns out in the woods of Maryland and whatnot happen too often to be that interesting anymore. But I did get me a wee giggle out of this quote: 

“And Mr. Ensign allowed Senator Tom Coburn, a friend and fellow conservative Christian, to serve as an intermediary with the Hamptons in discussing a large financial settlement, to help them rebuild their lives.” 

   I love that this brand of shit seems to happen an awful lot with conservative Christian politicians. Putting aside the whole notion on breaking government rules on gifts, bribes, influence, etc., does porking your friend’s wife actually fall within the conservative Christian roster of ethics? It certainly bangs heads with the Seventh and Tenth Commandments (bring in the Senate Ethics Rules and Ensign’s post-diddle behavior gives the finger to the Eighth & Ninth as well.) Maybe the Holy Rollers have revised their strictures to accommodate powerful buggerers who really love Jesus. 

   Anyhoo, these are the people actual conservative Christians elect to office time and time again, hoping to high heaven to have their values rule the day in America. These chosen leaders may make some token headway here and there, getting Creationism into the curriculum of a few school districts in Kansas or have the Ten Commandments posted outside government buildings in Alabama (with a few of them smudged and hard to read…) But the cC Pro-Lifers can forget about ever seeing the demise of Roe v. Wade.  As long as conservative Christians leaders keep on fucking people they ain’t married to they will probably need Abortion’s “emergency exit” as much as anybody who’s unprepared, or unfit, to raise another child in this world.
