Hasta La Vista, Democracy!

Gotta pat myself on the back for steering this blog clear of political chit chat through the Mass. Senate election.  It’s not that typing up slants & rants on candidates or voters isn’t any fun; it’s just not the type of material I want flavoring this site. That may or mayn’t change in the overall future but at this moment I just needed to offer a warm, heartfelt goodbye to U.S. Democracy as its pulse weakens then ends. We know it’s been brain-dead for ages but yesterday the Supreme Court decided it was time to pull the plug.

The SC declared (in a 5-4 ruling, go figure) that the government CANNOT ban political spending by corporations during elections.  Huh? So what?  Don’t they do that already? Well, no they don’t. Currently they’re somewhat limited to bolstering preferred politicians via donations to campaigns or parties. The new ruling gives them freedom to campaign directly for/against a candidate. Means they can spend like crazy on advertising and any lying they choose to do will be protected by the First Ammendment.  That’ll sway a Senator’s vote way quicker than any promise of fat, deferred, “retirement” funds or off-shore, underage prostitutes. Coo-oo-oool!!!

Big companies used to do that a lot, starting way back in the 1800’s, when the Industrial Revolution started producing Captains of Industry, Business Moguls and Corrupt-As-Fuck Corporate Magnates.  It ultimately brought a blazingly bright dawn for buying, or coercing, influence from politicians in the 1886 SC decision giving corporations all the rights of individuals.  It was a big kick in the jimmies to “Government by the People, for the People” because the highest ethical authority in the land had declared that big businesses were actually people too.

On occasions ever since there have been congresses which have tried imposing finance restriction laws to stifle the influence of corporate “individuals” and their squadrons of lobbyists.  Corporate lobbying/financing muscle had never been fully eradicated, however, as all finance laws were created with such huge loopholes they had to be typed up on hula-hoops. But none of it matters anymore.  As a matter of fact, YOUR votes don’t matter much anymore either.  Unless, of course, your expectations from your politicians line up with those of businesses who already have an expectation on how they should vote on laws/regulations.

A quick little example for you – the US recently gave a whole lotta freaking money to companies like Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, etc. to keep them from tanking. Then those corporations started handing out gigantic bonuses to their inept and/or careless execs.  So on top of having to tighten business rules on these reckless, greedy entities lawmakers also have to clampdown on the desire for these monsters to give themselves even more money for jobs poorly done. That’s what the government has to do, right?  Not anymore – this ruling means a little posse from Goldman can ride around D.C. telling anyone thinking of voting for pay caps that they’ll be staring up the ass of a very nasty, slanderous ad-campaign come next election.

Think any politician will ever act on ethics or the will of his constituents again?

Eventually this will bite every last one of us in the ass.  Left, Right, Middle – every liberal with his dick in the grass and every Teabagger with her head up her ass.  The voter base of the conservatives are headed for the biggest stab in the back, by the way. All their bellyaching about big government and the terror of taxation…Gosh, once corporations start telling congress they need to write new laws loosening their tax responsibility who do you think the government is going to come after to increase its revenue?  That’s correct, you dumbfounded dipshits – it’s going to come after YOUR paycheck – for real this time.  Thanks for that!

Here’s one last little giggle to this pitch black comedy…The US Supreme Court is not subject to any ethical oversight. Isn’t that so utterly awesome? Means that for this latest ruling Citigroup could have been padding Justice John Roberts’ off-shore conscience with payola while stuffing fellatial midgets up Anthony Scalia’s robes. Since the end is at hand anyway, I’ll offer up the Pro-Lifers this little gift: if you want to overturn Roe v. Wade then save all that money you were going to spend on posters of mutilated fetuses and take it to the Supreme Court.  There are at least 5 Justices up for sale.

#1 Keith :

Excellent post, brother. It does suck – reeks in fact. On the other hand it is Constitutionally correct. The only way this situation fixes itself will be with a Constitutional amendment, which is highly unlikely just for all the reasons you just listed above. I do disagree with you on one point. What “political” group has nearly unlimited fundraising potential and nutcases to do it? The religious zealots, that’s who. Tax-free PACs one and all. Roe V. Wade really is in deep doo doo as are numerous forms of free speech. And I know by law they’re not supposed to be active politically (sic)…

The whole deal sucks. Revolution is coming…
